SI Ordering the OnBoard Navigation Map SoftwarePage 1GROUP 8484 06 96Woodcliff Lake N.J.August 1999Phone Navigation SystemsProduct EngineeringThis Service Information bulletin supersedes S.I. 84 06 96 dated October 1996which should be removed and discardedfrom your S.I. binder.SUBJECT:Ordering the OnBoard Navigation Map CD SoftwareMODEL:3 Series 5 Series 7 Series Z3 and X5 Navigation System equipped vehiclesSITUATION:The BMW Factory OnBoard Navigation System will be standard on 2000 model year 7 seriesvehicles and an option on all 3 5 and X5 vehicles. Accessory Navigation systems are alsoavailable on 3 series E36 and E46 5 series and Z3 vehicles. The Navigation system found inthese vehicles uses CDROMs to hold the digitized road map data. The Continental UnitedStates is broken down onto 7 or 8 individual map CDs depending on the type of NAV system.Due to the number of CD possibilities per area vehicles equipped with the BMW OnBoardNavigation system will not be delivered to BMW centers with Map CDs. It will be the center'sresponsibility to order and deliver map software for these vehicles.All Map CDs for VDO NAV systems now contain an additional feature called RouteUSA. RouteUSA contains the U.S. Interstate Highway Network which allows routing across the UnitedStates using any one disc. For detailed coverage of a particular city/area the proper regionalMap CD is still necessary.This SI has sample order forms needed to order navigation Map CDs. Each center will alsoreceive a "BMW center packet" containing these same materials. When a customer purchases avehicle with the BMW OnBoard or accessory Navigation System the Sales Personmust askthe customer which map area(s) he/she would like.NOTE: The Sales Person will need to supply the Parts Manager with the customer's nameaddress and phone number.
