Application and IT owners therefore are eager for technologies that cansignificantly impact spend and maximize the value derived from SAP. This document examines how United Devices Data Center One solution can be used in a targeted manner to address the challenges associated with SAP service delivery and infrastructure management one of the largest line items in the IT budget. Business Context: Understanding the SAP Landscape For a typical SAP customer the implementation landscape consists of a large and growing numberof dedicated servers spread across: Multiple applications (e.g. ERP CRM SCM) Multiple modules (e.g. Financials MRP Inventory) for a single application Multiple instances (e.g. production test failover staging training) for a single application or module Typically three tiers (e.g. web application and database) for a single instance These environments share certain common characteristics. They are typically sized for peak demand which occurs infrequently causing many companies to under or overinvest ininfrastructure. In addition as SAP is a missioncritical business application significant portionsof IT budgets are spent on redundancy or high availability systems which require ongoingsupport yet are often idle contributing little to application productivity. Furthermore the sheernumber of servers employed to support SAP requires other critical significant infrastructure components including labor networks facilities and more which are impacted as servers scale up or down.
