Put students into small groups and give each group a copy of the Pizza Party Planner reproducible. Explain that they will be planning a pizza party and will need to figure out how many pizzas to order. 2. Give students time to fill in the table on the planner (they can survey each other or make up fictitious guests). Have them total the number of slices for each kind of pizza and enter the numbers in the table.3. Next have students calculate the number of each kind of pizza to order. To do this they need to take the total number of slices of cheese pizza and divide it by the number of slices in a pizza (in this case 8). Then repeat the same calculation for pepperoni pizza. Students should enter their results in their table.Note: The number of pizzas to order could likely be a decimal number. Explain to students that in this case the rule would be to round up the number. Ask why they think this is so? (Better to have leftover slices than not enough pizza for everyone!)4. When students have completed their calculations tell them that you just discovered that the pizza place has changed the way they make pizza. The slices are bigger and now there are 6 slices per pizza. This means that their guests will probably want to order fewer slices and they will have to refigure all their calculations! Allow students to moan and groan just a little bit before you tell them that you know of a much easier way to plan this party using a spreadsheet. Give each group time at the computer to enter the information from their workshee ...
