Military Loan Forgiveness Program This program is designed to honor those who have served or are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. This program is a one-time loan forgiveness of up to $2,500 per borrower. This forgiveness is for South Carolina Student Loan borrowers who meet the eligibility requirements. Eligibility Requirements The borrower has served or is currently serving in the U. S. Armed Forces on or after September 11, 2001 through December 31, 2006 in an active duty status. Active duty means full-time duty in the active military service of the United States as defined in Section 101(d)(1) of Title 10, United States Code, but does not include active duty for training purposes or attendance at a service academy. Existing Federal Family Education Loans (Federal Stafford, PLUS and Consolidation Loans) and Palmetto Assistance Loans held by SC Student Loan for school terms prior to January 1, 2007 are eligible for forgiveness.
