Overview
Overview: The C-Classs strong, Teutonic styling provides a coefficient of drag of only 0.26,
astonishingly low for a car that doesnt look like a well-used bar of soap. The Mercedes-Benz
entry-level sedan comes in three distinct flavors; a C230 with a 201-hp V6, a C280 with a 228-hp
V6 and the C350 with a robust 3.5-liter 268-hp V6. The C230 is the only model with an available
manual transmission. All the rest get the seven-speed automatic as standard fare. The real story of
the C-Class, however, is its content. In no particular order: smart two-stage airbags, four side
airbags, two side-curtain airbags, BabySmart child-seat compatibility, ABS with Brake Assist, ESP
yaw control/traction control, LED turn signal repeaters in the side mirrors, navigation system with
integrated telephone and audio controls, Tele Aid emergency response system with remote engine
diagnosis, integrated portable cellular telephone, and more.
Drivers Notebook: The C-Classs exterior surrounds a chassis with high torsional rigidity and a
rack-and-pinion steering system with excellent road feel and on-center precision. Front struts and a
five-link rear axle provide excellent roadholding and very low road and tire noise.
Bottom Line: Mercedes-Benz gave the 2005 C-Class a minor facelift. With major changes slated
for the 2008 C-Class, looking more svelte and much sportier than the current model, the 2007
model is the last year for this body style.
