I have been in awe ever since I first saw you.You are a delicate beautiful woman.MikeCan you tell us when you first began your journey into tight lacing?CathieThe corset wearing goes back many years. Bob and I first met as freshmen at Tufts inthe Boston area. We were both 17 at the time and have both just turned 65 (you can do themath). Bob had a longstanding interest in the elegance of the corseted figure which as closelyas we can determine most likely stemmed from the popularity of the musicals and movies of thefifties such as Showboat Seven Bridesfor Seven Brothers Oklahoma and ofcourse Gone With the Wind! Thoughhis grandmother was a rather stoutlady he does recall her being "laced".In the late fifties we were unaware ofany sources for custom or offthepegcorsets and Bob took some timecombing the costume shops in NewYork and found two corsets which healtered to fit me reasonably well.When we were married a year later wefound a custom corsetierre in NYC whomade a corset for me to wear under mywedding gown. From that time on for anumber of years Bob was busy with hisMedical education I was working andlater taking care of babies (our threechildren are now 40 38 and 35) soPage 2both time and finances limited our pursuit of sources as well as figure training time. It wasn'ttill the last child was well into high school that we were able to pursue what was by then amutual interestBob because he liked the look of the Victorian figure and me due to the"ravages of age" and child bearing.MikeHow long did it take to get to a 15inch waist?Cathie Though it took approximately fifteen years to be able to wear fifteen inch corsetsthat was something that "happened" and was never a goal per se.
