This tutorial will guide you how to use COPC32 activeX control on Visual Basic 6.0.
COPC32 is an activeX control used to create SCADA applications with OPC
technology. COPC32 can connect to OPC server to control and display operations of
PLC, DCS, controller, Remote I/O and any hardware support OPC technology.
This tutorial guide you through following step
- Adding COPC32 control on VB 6.0 toolbox
- Identify OPC server and OPC tags to COPC32
- Connect and disconnect to/from OPC server
- Get OPC tag values from OPC Server
- Write value to OPC tag
Requirements
Before starting the tutorial, please install the following software
- Any OPC Server (Simulator or Real operation)
- COPC32 activeX control package download from http://www.scadathai.com
- Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0 or VBA (MS Excel, Word, etc)
Create application to display OPC tag values from OPC Server
1. Open Visual Basic 6.0, create new EXE project
2. Right click on Toolbox and select Components
In Control tab, select COPC32 from list.
3. Click on COPC icon on toolbox
and drag it on the form. You could see
COPC control on form. Its name is copc1 automatically.
4. Select OPC Server and OPC tags we like to connect to by right click on copc1
> select properties. You could see property page. On OPC server tab,
change Update Rate to 100 (msec).
Click button near by svrname textbox to select OPC Server. Select OPC Server from
the list.
Note : If you would like to connect to remote OPC Server, please configure DCOM on
both PC corresponding to following documents.

And identify IP address or computer name of remote OPC Server in textbox
