Founded in 1927 the museum now attracts more than 75000 visitors annually.Henry Art GalleryHenry Art GalleryAbout the MuseumThe Henry Art Gallery opened its doors in 1927 as Washingtons first public art museum. The original building was designed by renowned Seattle architect Carl Gould. By the 1990s the Henrys special exhibitions and collections were too vast for its 5000 square feet of exhibit space. The subsequent expansion designed by Gwathmey Siegel & Associates more than quadrupled the size of the museum and included an auditorium bookstore caf renovated and new galleries classrooms and work space. The Henry recently celebrated its 75th Anniversary with the installation of a new permanent walkin Skyspace by internationally acclaimed artist James Turrell. The Henry Art Gallery offers challenging thoughtprovoking exhibitions and brings innovative artists architects and designers to the region. The museum organizes and hosts nationally acclaimed exhibitions such as Maya Lin: Systematic Landscapes James Turrell: Knowing Light the wildly popular Japanese art of Superflat and the highly praised Stephen Shore: The Biographical Landscape.
