General Information
Spare MBE900engines are supplied by the PDCsinastandard configuration that includes a manual-clutch flywheel.
If you are replacing an engine from a vehicle equipped with automatic transmission, you need to remove
the automatic-shift flywheel and theflexplate assembly from the old engine and install them on the replacement
engine.
Do this job following the procedures in this service bulletin.

1. Install the engine cranking tool to lockout any engine movement, following the procedures in Section
03.01 , Subject 150, of the Mercedes-Benz Components Workshop Manual.

WARNING
The flywheel is extremely heavy. If it is allowed to fall, the flywheel could cause severe personal injury,
or it could be damaged. Be sure to install the guide studs before attempting to remove the last two cap-
screws.
2. Remove the manual-clutch flywheel from the replacement engine, following the procedures in Section
03.01 , Subject 110, of the Mercedes-Benz Components Workshop Manual. See Fig. 1 for installation of
capscrewstobe used to handle the flywheel. See Fig. 2 for guide stud installation.
